Whilst waiting for Audience Night to start on last Monday night, The Pouting Apple showed me four of the latest Mandarin contemporary pop songs over her PSP player. So the credit goes to her for showing me the song so I can showcase to all you readers out there who still loves my blogging.

I listened intently and gave my comments and before I turned in the night, I would like to share the following song, which I think was quite well-written and well-sung. It's a mid-range song, fairly manageable and yet contains a good mix of techniques for any singing enthusiast to advance their love and interest for music and singing.

Music Dreamer Singer/Instrumentalist Auditions, Movie Review: Get Smart (2008), Gaming Update: Imperial Ages

Music Dreamer Singer/Instrumentalist Auditions:

The Pouting Apple wants to join the auditions and so I accompanied her to visit music dreamer cafe last Monday night to have a first-hand feel of what it is like to sing live onstage with music accompaniment by instrumentalists. It was Audience' Night so I gave The Pouting Apple as many chances as possible to sing and gain more onstage experience since she had very little opportunities to do so as she is currently working full-time as well.

She was a fast learner and managed to settle down fairly quickly onstage, fielding as many as three songs before we had to head home. The rest of the audience singers came from a wide variety of backgrounds and did reasonably well too. I was amused by the nervousness of a young lad who was accompanied by his aunt and colleagues to try onstage for the first time and he was so nervous that he was holding onto the microphone so tightly. I was also very impressed by a lady who came solo and she was actually English-educated but she loved Mandarin songs so much that she practised hard and sang really well. The regulars at Audience Night were more adventurous, fielding very difficult songs but not really measuring up but those were really fun attempts nevertheless.

An enjoyable night was spent listening and learning. According to what I know, the auditions already has as many as 60 candidates signing up and the organizers are opening up a third day for the latecomers. Looks like it will be an interesting competition to be a singer at Music Dreamer. Maybe I should go take a look the auditions and see what sort of blogging I can do on them.

Movie Review: Get Smart (2008)

The Busy Bee and I met up for dinner and the Get Smart movie last Saturday and found it to be really funny. The movie is about how a desk-bound agent was reluctantly promoted to a field agent after a successful breach of information by an enemy secret organization. Agent 86 (Steve Carell) was paired up with the legendary Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) to try and stop the evil mastermind. You see all the sparks flying as they quarrelled, fumbled, fought and competed to complete their seemingly-impossible mission.

I absolutely loved the part where both of them were trying to outdo each other on the dance-floor and also the part where Agent 86 tried to use his newly-acquired gadget - the mini-crossbow inside the toilet of an aeroplane with ridiculously hilarious results.

Strongly recommended this movie as a way to laugh away all the work and the stress - just leave your sanity and rationality at home and I am sure you will love the movie as I did.

Gaming Update: Imperial Ages

A few blog posts ago, I was writing about this so here's the update - the game was more exciting than I expected because there was a recent full-scale war between two of the largest alliances of which I was involved in as well. The war lasted an intense 72 hours and was fought fiercely between players hour by hour and I was really hyped up because the opposing alliance did boost a number of really strong and capable players. The result was a victory for my outnumbered alliance and the total dissolution of the other alliance.

I was glad to be of use in that particularly short yet violent military conflict, sending troop reinforcements to friendly villages being sieged by the opposing alliance players, as well as launching full-scale attacks on enemy villages. Below is a screenshot of my capital village - highly-evolved with a seriously strong economy as the backbone for my elite-trained infantrymen and heavy calvary.

As the war has just concluded, there was a consensus of a period of post-war peace amongst the international players and I am currently using this period of time to strengthen my military as well as grow my other smaller-sized villages. It's a war game and you can safely bet the next war will not be far off.

莞倩发音时很硬，音符连接不够，低音也不太稳，带不出《爱爱爱》柔软的转音。其它的就听不出因为被剪了，不过肯定有进步空间，加油加油！

楚宁的部份也剪了很多，不过从能看的来说，是选了一首她很拿手的歌曲和歌路，占尽了上风。以她控制音符的能力，应该是很好的演唱。可是有一点我得提 - 还是在她擅长的歌路中，没有突破或新鲜多少。

梦秦的歌确实听起来伧促，而且好像在挤声音，收音时也太快了。我也被她左手那些不需要的动作给分心了，不能专注地看演唱。

靖伦开头的“秋”吐气过重了些，主歌的一些尾音有点不稳，可是暖身后我觉得他有唱到歌中的意境。虽然比原版高，可是却加了个人的改编，有创意，别有一番味道。我觉得他应该胜出。

我不同意黄大炜对靖伦的评语，因为我觉得靖伦唱得很有自己的味道。

梦秦还是太赶拍了，也唱得太硬，没有用够心思去诠释《北斗星》，败阵我不会惊讶。加油加油！

靖伦从容不迫，虽然有些音在飘，可是正体会比对手好很多，应该会取胜。加油，调养好身体！

豪仁虽然选了难度很高的歌，可是有咬字不准，吃字的现象，气也不足，所以听得不是很舒服。若取胜是靠舞蹈表演，和创新的改曲，歌艺则有要加油的地方！

雨萱唱得不好，平淡又走音，也没有把歌中意境的悠然诠释出来。我也认为雨萱并没有真整有任何明显的进步，时好时坏，应该已经到了个人瓶颈了吧？加油加油！

淑晶换气声很重，高音也不纯亮，复歌时的歌词都绕在嘴里，发不出来。歌曲神髓好像唱到了，可是澎湃的能量被嘴型而局限了，有点可惜，加油！

圣恩第一次的表演确实少了新鲜感，可是同时能唱能舞能于观众互动还是比对手技高一筹。《无低洞》虽然难唱，可是任何舞曲更难唱，因为要顾忌的东西更广更多！加油！

晓媚的主歌的抖音和复歌的哭腔多了一点，音频一直都在一号，音复分明不够，要加油！

凤君的“还”有点不稳，可是复歌就比较好些。我到觉得凤君的能量控制得更好，不太多也不太少，应该能胜出。加油！

一贞的低音和拉音有点不稳扎，复歌的能量变化不够强烈分明，震撼的感觉不够，有点可惜，加油加油！

芯仪主歌的音色有点朦，“缘份”的音有点跑掉，可是歌曲的感情处理很好，不造作地唱歌，幽幽的美感，选对歌了，加油！

鸿鸣的能量控制有点不准，歌曲情绪应该慢慢地提升，可是他却好像急于展现歌喉，某些部份拉音得太用力，影响了歌曲的意境，到了后面的高音时，就没了层次感了，非常可惜！加油！

佳莹的轻重音很好，低音的控制也有进步了，复歌的”莹“， ”真心“有点跑调，不过唱得比对手好。加油加油！

This is yet another of the dinner prepared by The Married Soldier's wife. I really loved those dinners because the company is good and the food is delicious. We have baby kai lan, prawns in tomato sauce, omelette in minced pork, and carrots+pototoes+pork ribs soup. Yummylicious!
This is a goldfish. This is a very fat goldfish. This is a very fat goldfish reared by my mother. This is a very fat goldfish reared by my mother called "The Fat Lady - 肥婆". Everytime I brush my teeth, I would take a look a "The Fat Lady" which eats so much that she usually glides on the bottom of the aquarium on her stomach. Cute hor?

This is a teriyaki fish + pork bento set from Jurong Point - one of the lunches I took with The Holy Bitch before she flew off again for her work. The fish was good, the rice was sticky but the pork was too dry and hard to bite into. Anyway, hope the Holy Bitch is doing fine now.
This is a plate of char siew rice from one of the coffeeshops in Punggol. It looks delicious with the shine on the meat and it did tasted so because I was really hungry during that time - Punggol is still quite a desolate place in my opinion - at least in the aspect of the variety of food.
This is taken at Tiong Bahru Market where the whole bunch of VIP friends gathered for a huge dinner after KTV-ing together. I liked the newly-renovated lights, as they give a sort of Star-Trek feeling but the food is still the main attraction of the place - nice and breezy ambience too.

This is a new experience on the bus 16 - full black-leather seats for the entire bus. I wondered if this bus was used to sit VIPs for some official diplomats visiting Singapore's public transport system but I couldn't care less - I was quietly bouncing away on the seats throughout the ride - hahahaha.

What is this? Looks like fruits in a tin.
Sweets. Very sour-tasting sweets coated in icing sugar. I bought this as a present for the Holy Bitch because she commented that it was this exact kind of sweets she grew up on since her childhood. Found in Watson's Singapore, I bought it as a farewell gift and guess what? She greedily (and playfully) snatched it from me and shoved the entire tin into her handbag 3 seconds after I paid for it presented it to her. -___- Until then, I didn't knew she loved it THAT much. Hahahaha.

I am so touched that some of you are actually following my performance commentaries. I did receive some ruder remarks telling me to shut up on Youtube but I politely refused because I believe if what I am commenting are completely untrue, then these comments would not have any effect on anybody at all since those interested in singing and performing would have their own eyes to see and ears to hear and to judge for themselves.

So, to continue my tradition, though belated, here are the performance commentaries for last Friday's competition in Taiwan.

(P.S - I just watched the Superband Auditions Special - I think Singapore bands must work harder at their singing first before attempting to dress up their clothings or instruments. If I find enough time, I will also start another series on Superband competition as well).

李成基唱得气不是很足，咬字也不是很清，音准也发得不齐不稳。虽然他擅长舞曲，可是歌唱实力不够纯熟，所以若靖伦无大意外，用舒情歌曲迎战，应该能取胜吧。

靖伦的音量控制不太好，已边缘于在喊了，虽然高音转音是他的长项，可是因为我对这首歌相当熟悉，所以我觉得他诠释时还有进步的空间。

靖伦并没有忘词，应该是乐手入拍太快了，所以靖伦阵脚变乱了。

算是有惊无险了，下次要和乐手沟通好，加油！

姿桦的音符起伏很小，所以歌曲听起来很平淡，而且能量也没有特别之处。虽然她的歌唱精验应该不俗，可是歌唱诠释平庸无奇，可惜，也许不是她擅长的歌路吧，加油！

楚宁主歌的“Feel”字尾音低得有点险，“Heart”好像走音，复歌的“Know”音抓得不太稳。楚宁的爆发力和能量处理则是她的优势，只不过我觉得最后一句可以再放轻点，更能显示出复歌时的昂扬气势。加油！

阿怪听起来好像鼻音过重，而且某些音发的力道也不足或不是从对的地方发出，可是他的表演天分和独特的懒散式口音却又加了娱乐分数，因为不是很多人可以唱得那么轻松懈意的。加油！

凤君唱得很不错，歌曲的韵味拿捏得稳健，轻重音也够明显。若要挑剔，应该是主歌的前几句唱得不够投入，还有复歌的“进入你的心”尾词的音下得重了点。不错，加油！

何書宇论音准和歌曲的控制，其实唱得不俗。可是他没有把歌曲献给观众，而好像是自唱自足。歌曲主歌复歌的一些情绪起伏也没有达到。小玲是没错 - 書宇的音质是不错，可是我觉得诠释功力却不足够。加油！

我觉得芯仪已经诠释到歌曲的神髓了，只是在其中一句的哭腔控制的不太好，不过整体而言，并没缺点可挑。

可能自我要求过高，就变得更执著更放不下，就会卡在那里。芯仪的困惑很像凤君之前的自困。加油！

梁一貞的“任意的”和“它不再”都咬得不准，也低得很辛苦。我也觉得假音部份好像顶得不是很稳，收得急促，也没有把歌曲沟通给观众。我不同意小胖老师的看法，一贞还有进步的空间。

圣恩的歌曲复歌应有的振撼没有诠释出来，重点的情感起伏也点不到，轻重音的区别也很朦胧，应该是他最糟糕的表演之一。要多加油呀！

蓝惠君开始发挥了，有一定的歌唱和诠释技巧。我只觉得她的高音线条有点平，可以再顿挫一点，收音时再稳一点，就更好了。加油！

彦博好像功力不进反退，歌声不但虚弱乏力，情感也处理得平淡乏味，歌曲也点不到重点。虽然他在歌里加上个人元素，而且如子鸿老师所言，温柔是唱出，可是其中的刚强却没有唱到。可惜，要加油！

林鴻鳴的撕喉版本还蛮有味道，把曲风变得还不错。可是毕竟是名曲之一，换得太多，很难达到共鸣支持。加油！

佳莹处了在唱自创歌曲时，表演能量指数一直在跌，若光芒不能持续，就会被逃汰掉。这次是因能创作歌曲而保了小命，可是这样耗下去，台上的魅力会再减弱。佳莹一定要找回信心，能量和突破口气那关呀。加油！

曾靜玟主歌前两句的歌词唱得一块块的，过后的歌词咬字却又串得太紧在一起了。整体来说，她唱得有点过滑润，少了原曲应有的感情磨擦，所以我不觉得像小玲老师说得那么好，不过可塑性很高，有前途可言。加油！

Kingdom Hearts looks like quite a nice game but I already have Sims 2 and Imperial Ages which are keeping my hands full during my gaming time but for those interested, you can go ahead and try the game. It's quite challenging and yet fun to play.

I am not a English music lover but the song sounds quite well-made and an occasional English song does broaden one's music horizon. Any reader out there with more exposure to Coldplay and go ahead and tag what you know about this song.

My apologies for not updating my blog as often as I would like to. I promise to update as much as possible in June because I think I scheduled too much work this month and ended up neither resting properly nor blogging regularly.

I went for a badminton session with a few of my friends and because of the resulting fatigue, ended up with a calf cramp after two hours of badminton. It's really hilarious because I usually don't have cramps so I think it's a sign for to rest more. I think I will sleep earlier before midnight tonight.

I haven't bought my USB cable replacement so there are many photos which are not uploaded yet but I will promise to do that as soon as I can.

方岑是前辈，所以当然不能以下犯上，评她歌艺，因为前辈能来踢馆，已经是让参赛者有宝贵的磨练机会了。参赛者都要加油呀！

彦博在歌曲的情感起伏有点平，主歌和复歌处了声量，并没有太大的分别。我觉得彦博没有放胆去唱，歌曲好像被绑住，所以才会像小琥老师所言，没有能量。这次是险胜，要加油！

圣恩很勇敢，因为虽然他知道舒情歌曲是他的弱点，可是他想表现，不避重驾轻。圣恩的转音控制不是很好，这次唱高音时也拉得不稳，有忘词，吃字的毛病，最后的“是非”也低不下来。要加油！

靖伦其实有在变强，因为处了低音和尾音的处理有进步，他的轻重音的分辨度也比林佳琪较好，加上他原有的稳健高音，让他再跨多了一步。虽然我觉得佳琪应该拿更高的分数，可是靖伦的歌曲处理得更好。

我觉得雨萱唱得比以前好，因为她确实有唱足《风筝》的韵味，不是盲目地跟在孙燕姿原版的影子，而是在唱雨萱本人能控制之内的版本。以此而论，她有稍微的进步，可是没有自我突破。要加油！

两人都要加油，好的表演应是当仁不让的！

初听这版本的《氧气》，相当有新鲜感，只是嗣敬的拉音太平淡，摇滚不出，肢体语言也因吉他而有所局限。创意应加分，可是嗣敬的歌艺却一直落在他个人瓶颈中，不能突破，可惜。

娱乐届的黑白灰，追究对错该不该，我也无权批评，可是我觉得嗣敬已尽了力了。毕竟是苦战好几回合才被判出局 ，输得光彩，走得灿烂，换成其它参赛者也未必能做得这么潇洒。

局是出了，赛是结束了，可是只要你把握机会，把星光大道所学得发挥得更好，哪里都是"美猴王"的舞台！

My apologies (to whoever is following this series of blog posts) for taking so long to do this group of performance commentaries. Some of the performances were really difficult to listen to (even with earphones) hence the delay.

雨萱主歌的最后一个字过朦，收得太急促，应该拉稳一点儿。不过也听得出她做功课后，对感情琢磨得更透彻，入 歌有比已往更深，有带出此歌曲的韵味。

雨萱的尾音再拿捏准一点，肯定会再跨多一步的！加油！

彦博的肢体语言没有和声音达成合谐，所以看上去摇滚的部份还是生疏僵硬。

虽然我很佩服他挑战摇滚的勇气，更喜欢他走出一直唱游鸿明的歌曲的影子，可是彦博对歌曲的尾音有点不稳，听起来好像有点破音，无法稳住歌曲一些部份。

加油！希望彦博能找到“彦博式”的歌唱魅力！

忠颖的假音唱不上，显得虚弱无力。他换气的方式我也看得怪怪的，分散了我对他演唱的主意力。

忘词的问题更是把忠颖的分数拉得更低，太可惜了。若其它参赛者无大碍，忠颖恐怕难普级了。

芯儀主歌唱得很虚很平，好像得此失彼，一顾舞步，就忘了把歌声的能量充足，前一炮的歌艺就不响了。复歌的很多尾音的发音也不足，所以虽然舞蹈四分，可是牺牲了歌唱，所以整体三分甚至可能两分。危险。

加油，芯儀！

小玲老师说得对，此歌曲不花俏，只要把歌曲神髓的精神唱出，就作到了。嗣敬应该是怕损了这“世界名曲”，而有所顾忌。重唱那段终于证明其实他唱得到的。

我觉得嗣敬技巧和舞台虽然逊色于其它参赛者，可是他在慢慢地成长，有让人期待的感觉，所以会入十强。若普级，希望他能利用机会，进入人歌合一的境界。

凤君这次唱得很有感觉，尤其是在拉音部分摇滚的韵味十足。虽然她主歌的其中一句歌词唱得特别虚，可是眼神交流有一定的改善。

再多点自信，别怕观众因为很多喜欢音乐的观众不是想看人出糗，而是期待好的表演。开始喜欢观众吧！加油！

如果要挑剔靖伦的肢体协调，肯定有很多，可是这些似乎是大家都公认的弊点，却在这次的演唱中，不足为道。

因为，处了后几句词靖伦开始低得虚弱外，靖伦挑战情感和低音，已经有很大的进步了。

靖伦也带来了唱歌时的旧未听到的快乐和感性，与很多其它参赛者有别，相信因为他懂得了排除压力，享受此歌的意境。

无论过不过关，这回合我觉得他已经成功了！加油！

2008-05-30 超级星光大道第三季 突破自我挑战赛 part 9

八个字 - 唱得不好，跳得勉强。

圣恩歌词中吃了蛮多的词 “miracle”， “I'm tired”，“ you're thinking” 都唱得似有似无的。歌声中也没有这世界明曲的豪迈奔放，反而听到了紧张。

舞蹈虽然复杂，可惜没有能量，没有振撼感。

应该是圣恩最差的表演吧，要加油！

期待她的演出，可是却是有一次的失望。佳莹的音准太糟糕了，咬字不清，不稳，轻重音的部份也乱，拍子也不连惯，眼神的自信也荡然无存，气势在下滑。

不想多说了，再这样下去，大势必去。佳莹，要加油！

经过这次有心思，有创新的表演，我觉得在星光三班里楚宁已步入"上将"级的水准了。

这首歌难唱，可是楚宁勇敢地利用更纯朴的伴奏方式，来尽显她歌唱时里更诚恳的声音发挥，非常难得。

若楚宁一直寻求"能掌控的突破"，三班中她将会是炫耀夺目的！加油！
