Ah..finally back to following this competition. I know I have missed one week's of performances but I managed to finish every minute of the following round.
No personal commentaries yet because I am not well-rested enough to give accurate critiques on their performances. I promise to get to them as early as tonight or tomorrow morning.
For all singing enthusiasts, this competition continues to be a great learning tool because a number of judges do give very constructive comments on the performances. The contestants also give performances that can provide good reference materials for your future learning process in music, singing, and performance so do take a good look at this round where some of the better contestants actually fumble due to some fundamental errors being overlooked. I will address these in greater detail when I have the time to get back to edit this blog post.

(Performance By Sugi)
Sugi's wrong entry into the song did seriously affect his grade in this performance because it is not due to his handicap in Chinese language but due to him forgetting his part of the song. I also feel that Sugi sang too little of the song and his singing was a little frail compared to A-Lin. Perhaps both of them should have worked more closely together about the allocation of singing portions and singing volume. Sugi still does not look self-confident enough onstage and he must learn to overcome it because without starpower confidence, he will begin to dim whilst others ooze with their confidence. Sorry, Sugi, at this stage of the competition, I personally would have given a 2 out of 5 so you must buck up. Jia you, Sugi~~~ =)

(Performance By Jinglun)
(Special Duet Performance By Jinglun and Jeff Chang)
Jinglun has learnt a very valuable singing lesson from Shino - beyond all the techniques and skills, comes a return to the innocence - back to the very basics of singing - SING from the heart. I liked the part where they edited the portion so that both of them can avoid over-reaching the song and giving the song a nice comfortable-sounding crescendo at the chorus. Jinglun did learn how not to over-rely on his high-pitch voice and genuinely enters the song and allows his immersion into the song as well. However, the performance was quite bland with no other deliberation to sing individually, Jinglun was too attached to Shino's lead that he could not tear from it to sing more "freely" but the performance was definitely a 3 out of 5. Good work, Jinglin! =)
Jinglun and Jeff's special duet performance was indeed a pleasurable experience. A very rare chance to see two males with high-range voices singing a beautiful song. I must commend on the nearly-flawless harmonization between them and of course, the sincerity from both in bringing out the best in that song. A four-star performance to crown that night.

Jiaying, a favourite with the judges, did indeed gave the best performance for this round of the competition because she managed to blend very well with her duet partner, Datong. She knows where to harmonize and when to express her individual singing style. I would not give a full-mark performance though because Jiayin's earlier few lines sounded too shaky and unstable but without a doubt, a four out of five performance. She must thank Datong for helping her tremendously.

Chuning started a little too strong and thus did not manage to differentiate her verse lines and her chorus lines, so the song is just about the power of lungs, not about singing. All I hear is shouting style of the song but not the subtle struggle portrayed within the lyrics of the song. Although I admit there is presence of power in the song, it definitely did not deserve a 25 out of 25. I think it's only worth 3, at most, 4 out of 5. Totally befuddled by the judges' incredulous generosity.
