A day's worth of travelling fun with The Holy Bitch

The Holy Bitch came back for a mere 28 days' holidays before she has to fly off again for her studies so I am actually using as much of my free time this month as possible to entertain and accompany my VIP friend. Yesterday was completely reserved for her and we did one entire day's worth of travelling and visiting and eating. Pretty glad that she enjoyed the outing because it's been so many months since she last stepped foot back in Singapore again.

Light Lunch at Pastamania:

On Monday, I met the Holy Bitch at around 11.30am and we started to find a place for lunch before the lunchtime crowd appears. Pastamania was her choice and being weight conscious like so many girls, she picked those small set meals with soup, garlic bread and drinks.

Trying to make her guilty of starving me, I picked the same set meal (which is obviously not enough for my stomach) and finally succeeded in coaxing her to get a garden salad as well. The rationale is very simple - little food, little energy to move around and I expected alot of travelling with her around.

Lunch was spent talking about friends' experiences and happenings recently and we headed off to Kinokuniya Bookstore to browse through some books here and there to work off the lunch abit before the movie starts.

Iron Man (2008) Movie at Bugis Junction:

Initially, I wanted to watch Doomsday and scare the living daylights out of The Holy Bitch (she is the kind of movie-goer who will have nightmares watching horror flicks) but Bugis Junction wasn't screening it so she got away with Iron Man instead.

The movie was quite good, considering how the lead actor (Robert Downey Jr) managed to portray both the confident, high-flying military industrialist, Tony Stark, as well as the reflective, humanistic superhero in disguise. I loved his humour and also the way the movie balanced a gently evasive but subtly romantic relationship with long-time personal assistant Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow).

The experimentation with the Iron Man suit in his laboratory was really funny, especially how he communicates and chides his robotic assistants. The villiany in the story was quite predictable with a profit-oriented uncle versus a transformed and humanitarian Tony Stark and climaxed into a showdown as both slugged it out with their versions of the Iron Man.

Don't forget to pay attention to Tony Stark's speeches in the movie, especially the last one. Very memorable and unique - gives thought to the kind of mayhem and chaos he always throws around whenever he gives speeches. Hahaha. The 3.5 star movie is definitely worth watching.

Afternoon Desserts at NYDC:

We were looking for a place to sit and chill out after the movie and we past by NDYC. Looking at the deliciously-looking cakes in the display counter, we looked at each other and decided that would be the place.

By a table overlooking the long street of cart stalls inside Bugis Mall, The Holy Bitch and I ordered two slices of cakes and we watched the afternoon go by for an hour, savouring afternoon dessert cakes in a nice and quiet NYDC.

The Holy Bitch ordered the slice of cake called "Chocolate Addiction" and I loved the icing and chocolate dust atop of it. Yummy.
I ordered this cake called Jamaican Banana because it has rum inside. Well, the rum wasn't as strong as I expected it to be but still, the banana pieces within made the cake smooth and the light chocolate was absolutely delicious to my palate.

Central National Library Visit:

The Holy Bitch said she wanted to visit the Central Library nearby, hoping to get some books for herself so we headed off to the other side of Bugis Junction. It was one first visit back at the newly-built Central National Library and the place was so big that it gave me the impression that I was entering another corporate building like that of the HDB Hub in Toa Payoh.

The place was perfectly-airconditioned and both of us decided to explore the place, taking the escalators up to as many floors as we could manage and visiting every single place we can. We actually wanted to go into those special reference libraries with those really rare books but unfortunately, we were carrying a lot of expensive equipment on us to feel safe to deposit into those lockers at the entrances so we headed down to B1 where the main lending library is.

Books, books and more books - both of us spent about an hour browsing through shelves and shelves of materials, ranging from history, literature, philosophy, comics, novels and it was good quiet fun. Why so? No running and screaming young children. It seemed odd that even inside the supposedly "Children's Section", I could not even spot a single young child - only adults were inside. Perhaps the librarians there were unforgiving if young children spoil the ambience and quietude there that the kids dared not even come to Central National Library.

The Holy Bitch found several books that she wanted but did not borrow them because we were lugging too many things already so she would come back another time instead for the books.

Japanese Ramen Dinner at Raffles City Link:

Our final stop was at a Japanese restaurant which was selling ramen for dinner. I could not remember the name of the shop but I think it should be beside The Soup Spoon and a Chinese Restaurant selling BBQ stuff. We each ordered a large bowl of ramen and they were very filling - with generous beef slices, bean sprouts, mushrooms slices and I must comment on the soup, which was very tasty because it was done just right - not too salty and not too heavy on the taste buds either.

The day concluded at around 8pm after a brief walk through Raffles City and we headed home respectively, with tired feet, full stomachs and smiles on our faces.
